Name or nickname – Amy Suralis-Smith or Mrs. Meatsock

Relative age – 27

How long have you been CrossFitting, when did you start? 11 months, I started October 1, 2013

How did you find CrossFit West Jax and CrossFit? My husband (Meatsock) started from knowing about it from Armando who he worked with.

How often do you make it to the gym and which class time do you prefer? I go to the gym everyday, sometimes twice in a day if I am lucky. I prefer to go to the 3pm or 4:30 class.

What do you do for a living? More than just a job title, what do you actually do and what do you enjoy most about it? I am a registered nurse in the surgical ICU at Mayo Clinic. I care for post transplant patients, post open hearts, and critical neuro patients. I think the most enjoyable part of my job is when I see transplant patients who are truly greatful for their second chance at life and how they honor the person that had to pass to give them their organ. Its amazing to see the determination that some people have just to live, its something most of us take for granted.

Do you have a favorite skill/lift and why? I really like overhead squats, mainly because a lot of people lack the flexibility to be able to do them, and it was something that I was able to get right away when I first started. I also really like walking lunges because I can always feel that I did work the next day.

What is your nutritional philosophy and why? Eat big, lift big. Right now I am trying to gain weight so that I can move more weight, so I basically eat a lot of protein about 140g a day. I also always have a bowl of ice cream every day, I feel like that is going to be the key to getting a 200lb front squat. I started crossfit at 121 and right now I weigh about 135. My goal is 145 by December.

What 3 foods do you always have in your house? Ice Cream, Chicken Breast, and Sweet potatoes

Favorite physical activity outside of CrossFit? Hands down… Swimming

Who do you use as a measuring stick/who inspires you in our gym? My training partners, Sherry Hines and Ashley Schwartz are my biggest motivators/measuring sticks/inspirations.

If you could trade places with any one historical person or live in any particular place or era, who, where, when would it be and why? I would trade places with Peter the disciple because I think it would have been amazing to see Jesus walk on water and to walk on water too. One thing most people don’t know about you? My sophomore year of high school I won three State Championships in three seperate areas… don’t laugh….. Forestry, Dairy Judging, and O.H. Demo.

What 3 songs would you like to see included in your ideal CrossFit playlist? Pearl Jam- Corduroy, David Guetta-Titanium, and La Roux- Bullet Proof

What was the last book you read? The Bible, I read it pretty much everyday, and I’m almost done with my first time through the whole thing.
