Getting Started at CrossFit West Jax


1. Real easy, email or just walk in to observe a WOD or ask any questions you may have. We offer a free 8:30am and 9:30 class every Saturday for those who want a taste of the training. This training is for serious clients only therefore, give it some time to think over what level of dedication you’re ready to give before you start.

2. If you like what you see and are ready to begin, schedule a time for our Fundamentals Course (FC). This course starts every other Monday at 6:30pm (call for alternate time if needed). The FC is a 6-session introduction that will cover the basic functional movements of CrossFit. The FC is intended to guide clients through the complex movements of our training (body weight/gymnastic movements, olympic lifts, etc). It is imperative that all movements are done with excellent form which will reduce the risk of injury and will produce better results. Therefore, during the FC you will be closely supervised by a trainer who will provide constructive feedback. At the end of each session there will be a workout.

Our Programming
Our programming is constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high intensity.  In short, CrossFit is not a routine. Our goal is to prepare you for every and any imaginable fitness task. What we do varies from day to day, week to week, and month to month. If you get bored at a gym, well, it’s because a routine gets boring, that won’t apply here.
We use functional movements, which can be described as a movement that involves more than one joint, and has a core to extremity movement pattern. In short, we don’t use machines, and we rarely isolate. Functional movements are not mastered overnight. Our coaches are constantly working with clients to help them improve their technique, no different than any other elite athlete has a coach to help them with their sport. From Wayne Gretzky to Michael Jordan, they are constantly working on their craft to be the best at what they do, our goals are no different.
High Intensity Training. It’s about working hard. Hard working is a necessary character trait for all our clients, it’s how we get results. We certainly help you in that department, as will the community of people around you. And this is where we might lose some people, because if hard working is not in your list of character traits, you will not like what we do. We like to think that nothing worth having comes easy, and what you accomplish here will do more than make you a better athlete, it will improve on your entire life!

That was CrossFit in a nutshell, here’s how we start you, the person who’s never done it before.
We start with our fundamentals course. It’s a 2 week program aimed at teaching proper technique of the movements we use in CrossFit programming. As mentioned above, functional movements are difficult to master. So, we take our time teaching how to execute them properly. We go into the standards of the movements, so that not only will you learn how to do these movements safely, but, meet standards that are universally recognized around the world. And, it’s the keeping of these standards that will force clients to work within their physical capabilities. This is priority number 1 in our fundamentals course. We stress technique before intensity! We care about your safety, and are careful on what types of workouts we want new clients doing. Learning the fundamentals ensures that we bring you along carefully before doing our regular CrossFit classes.

Once you have completed our fundamentals program, you’ll be ready to join group classes that execute the daily CrossFit West Jax warm up and Workout-of-the-Day (WOD). During group classes we will continue to coach your technique closely and help you scale the workouts as needed. Some of you may love the training and want to commit but feel more comfortable in a 1-on-1 environment or feel that your fitness goals may require a more individualized approach. No problem, we’ll assign you a personal coach/trainer that will guide you and motivate you through all workouts. We also offer sport specific training. CrossFit West Jax staffers come from a diverse background of competitive athletics. We train teams and individuals at all levels to excel in their respective sport. Contact us for more details!
